Conceeeeeeeeert! Oh my God, it’s been so long since I’ve been to a live a show, I feel like it was in another lifetime entirely (and in a way it was, considering everything that happened in the past few years). I’ve missed it so much! The live music, the crowds, the cheers, the excitement, that electric vibe you get when living the same feelings in unison with thousands of other people… there is nothing like a live experience and I’m glad I got to enjoy it again.
Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox was such a fun and entertaining show. Lighthearted and full of enthusiasm, with incredibly talented artists and a joyful spirit, it was a beautiful evening. Rogelio Douglas Jr, “the emcee”, completely stole the show (I was actually wondering why you’d bring someone along on tour just to hype the audience, but all my questions disappeared when he started singing Michael Jackson’s Thriller), but the PMJ ladies were also amazing, with their incredible vocals sending shivers down my spine and commanding a ton of respect and appreciation. Bonus points for the adorable Demi Remick, “their rhythmic bomb” who tap-danced throughout most of their songs, played Mario and drank shots, all with a huge infectious smile on her face. And of course, the wonderful instrumentalists who all delighted us with their skill, smiles and solos.
One of the cutest moments of the evening was when Dani Armstrong (or “if Ursula and Ariel had a baby”, as Rogelio introduced her) informed the audience that she and Mike Chisnall (the guitarist) are married and crowned the announcement with a sweet love ballad that Dani sung for Mike.
The whole show passed in the blink of an eye (although it was around 2 hours long, it felt so short and the break in the middle of the setlist didn’t help with the impression) and I would’ve loved Robyn Adele Anderson to be part of the cast, but you can’t have them all.
The atmosphere was lovely, so informal and relaxed, both among the audience and on stage. Yes, they wore elegant attire and had a ceremony host, but through that transpired a love of life and music, without pretentiousness or taking themselves too seriously. They jumped for coins on Mario music. In the crowd everyone was looking happy, chilling, dancing, it was really nice to get away from the craziness and monotony of every day life and just disconnect for a few hours. I had a pleasant time and felt recharged, leaving with an inerasable smile of my own. I can’t wait to do that again!
