About
Welcome!
Have you ever felt the need to dissect every single aspect of a certain thing, but knew for sure that everyone would run to the hills if you’d *really* let it all out? Have you ever wanted to scream on the top of your lungs how much you love everything about that thing, but knew that no one could put up with that long enough? Well, that’s how I feel about music.
Most of my free time, energy and money go into this passion and I could speak about it for ages, but for the sake of my family’s sanity, I started writing my impressions about albums and concerts instead of actually speaking them. I’m happy I get to express myself and they’re happy they get both silence and a content wife/ daughter/ friend, everyone wins. And this is how this blog was born… Everything I write is extremely personal and it’s more about my relation to music, rather than about technical aspects. It’s not a collection of reviews per se, but more of a music diary, so don’t expect too much objectivity.
I was lucky to be raised in a family that loved music and I came into contact with bands like Queen, Rainbow, Pink Floyd or Deep Purple from a really young age. I listened to music while I was in my mother’s womb, when I was a month old and wouldn’t stop crying or even when my parents wanted me to sleep. I studied piano all throughout primary and middle school, sung in a choir throughout high school and college, dressed up as my favourite artists and held my own concerts when I was home alone… the only thing I didn’t do is start a garage band (mostly because I didn’t have a garage, but I did have a ton of stage fright). To this day, some of the most beautiful moments I spend with my husband are when we’re listening to music together and sharing our latest discoveries.
I went through all the typical stages of music obsessions. When I was 3, I’d listen to the music my parents liked, sing All right now from Paul Rogers around the house and not go to sleep without listening to Rainbow eyes from Rainbow each night. When I was 8, I’d listen to whatever was popular and loved Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys. Then at 14 came the rebellion phase where I’d blast Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit through the headphones and complain that no one understands my music :)) As I grew up, I slowly started developing my own opinions and my own tastes and started actively searching for bands. Behold the wonders of the internet, a new world was opening up in front of me, full of new and exciting bands and genres I didn’t even know existed.
Nowadays I listen mostly to progressive metal, folk metal, power metal, symphonic metal and classic rock and I’m slowly starting to venture into the world of doom and melodic death. I don’t consider myself an elitist though. I still get excited when I hear Spice up your life, I love Caro Emerald and my best friend doesn’t even listen to music all that much, so even though most of my preferences revolve around metal, I don’t appreciate music based on genre and I most certainly don’t judge people based on their music taste.

Over the years I have gathered quite a collection of „confessions”, but apart from the occasional forum post, they mostly remained hidden (which is a bit sad, considering I put a lot of heart into writing them). So when my husband realised how much I like writing about music and encouraged me to make a blog, I went through the stage of „that’s a great idea, why didn’t I think of it earlier?”, then through „wait… does anyone actually care about my ramblings?” and then finally settled for the more positive stage of „ok, I’m going to do this. And if anyone feels the slightest bit of enthusiasm, gets the tiniest bit of insight or finds just one good song through my blog, then it will be time well spent”. I’m going to put up the older reviews as well because it would be a shame to let them go to waste, but after that it will become a regular blog, one that I hope you will all enjoy.
So, without further ado, I welcome you all to MusicConfessions!
