AC/DC, Constitution Square, 16.05.10

Not much can be said about seeing AC/DC live. They’re the kind of band that I would never listen to at home, but they’re also an icon of hard rock and they sure know how to put up a show. Starting with the huge locomotive that decorated the stage, following up with a whole lotta Rosie riding the locomotive and ending with Brian ringing the bells of hell and a ton of fire crackers and pyros and stuff.
I was a bit sad that we didn’t get to stay up front as the whole area was completely packed by the time we got there (and we were there only a half hour after the doors opened), but we went up on the lawn in front of The House of the People and we had a terrific view. It almost seemed like a VIP seat, with us having a clear view of the stage and the whole square. It was really great seeing a crowd of tens of thousands of people, jumping up and down, making waves and wearing the infamous red horns. Cool sight, with all the horns lighting up in the dark.
The guys act like they’re in their twenties, they have so much energy I have no idea where they get it from. Brian ran across the stage like I don’t think I could be able to do at a fourth of his age and Angus did his famous guitar solo running, jumping, rolling on his back and in pretty much any position you can think of. It wouldn’t have been a real AC/DC experience without a show-off from Angus, really. He even pulled down his pants to reveal AC/DC underwear :)) Yes, tons of sex references, what else did you expect from a band whose most famous song includes a visit to the hookers? I mean…. dancers. Brian seems to be losing his voice, but you know, the dude always sings like his vocal chords are about to break, so I can’t really tell. Still, he sounded even more hoarse and strained then usual (yes, that is possible).
While the show was a spread of forces and obviously very well thought and meant to go all out, I didn’t feel any connection with the artists. They seemed like they were having tons of fun on the stage, but they were a bit cold with the audience. They did their routine, but maybe they’ve been too many places and have been cheered by too many people to be impressed anymore, I don’t know what it was. Well, I guess not everyone can be super warm and cuddly and “we love you and we’ll be back” and after all it was an entertaining concert, so I shouldn’t complain too much. It should be noted that Angus did a far better job at communicating with the audience then Brian did. Also, the guy is so out there and into his music, that you can’t not love him!
